Our Mission
Our Vision
At The Mockingbird Society we are dedicated to building a world‐class foster care system that ensures the care, support, and resources necessary for children, youth, and families to thrive.
Our Mission
The mission of The Mockingbird Society is to advocate for systems reform based on the personal experiences of children, youth, and families impacted by the foster care system.
Our Guiding Principles
Our belief that all children need the same things ‐‐‐love, care, support and resources to thrive ‐‐ is at the core of our work at The Mockingbird Society. We follow 7 guiding principles, which help define our approach to our work, and employ an outstanding team to direct and implement these strategies.
At The Mockingbird Society we believe that:
- Children who enter the system are our children and our responsibility.
- Programs do not create nurturing homes — dedicated adults do.
- Systems do not raise healthy children — families and communities do.
- Advocacy creates reform when it is innovative and collaborative.
- Children, youth, and families play essential leadership roles in bringing about change.
- Solutions must address root or upstream causes to prevent downstream problems.
- Inclusive and collaborative approaches, which honor all voices, are critical to building a world‐class foster care system.
