POSITION SUMMARY
The Network Representative is a support to the state wide Mockingbird Youth Network. This support includes; generating monthly articles, assisting with chapter activities, speaking opportunities, trainings and civic engagement. The Network Representative is also responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Network programs including workspace and equipment care (e.g. cleanliness, computer lab, video camera, television etc.). The Senior Network Representative will report to the Network Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Responsibilities:
- Professional and positive representation of the Mockingbird Society and The Mockingbird Youth Network at public events and activities.
- Provide leadership support to the Region 4 chapter participants regarding chapter activities.
- Attend and assist with region 4 chapter meetings.
- Participate in trainings, workshops and other activities as assigned.
- Take part in public speaking engagements.
- Assist with annual events (Advocacy Day, Foster Youth/Alumni Leadership Summit).
- Support quarterly Statewide Advisory Council meetings.
- Participate in organizational, program and fund development activities. .
- Youth Speakers Program: Youth present at conferences, workshops, community forums and other events, and provide education and information regarding the foster care system, their life experiences and how the general public can become involved.
Mockingbird Times Responsibilities:
- Provide a leadership role model to the other Network Representatives.
- Take the lead on projects as assigned.
- Oversee the maintenance of the Network area.
- Facilitate weekly meetings.
- Assist Network Representatives with trainings.
- Research ideas to become “informed and educated” regarding current issues and best practices in foster care and the child welfare system.
- Generate monthly articles, poetry, and illustrations as assigned..
- Ensure the timely and quality production, distribution and circulation of the Mockingbird Times.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Experience: Experience in foster care/ kinship care system preferred.
Technical skills: Proficiency in using personal computer and various office software packages.
Approach: This position requires a “can do” attitude about activities that promote individual leadership development, community engagement and system reform. Including, but not limited to, a desire to present experiential knowledge about the foster care system to the community through panels as well as the Mockingbird Times.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to attend two conferences annually.
- Ability to attend monthly and/or quarterly staff meetings .
- Age requirement 15-24.
- Availability to work some evenings/occasional weekends.
