Think-tank
Community forums with a range of stakeholders including family members, youth, foster parents, counselors, administrators, and others exploring critical issues that are relevant to the health and safety of children and youth who are in the foster home/group care system.
- 12,000 children in Washington live in the foster home/group care system
- 6,000 of these children are school age
- Group homes are reimbursed less than 70% of the true cost of care
- $9.00 is the average rate of pay for counselors who work in group homes
- Children and adolescents in the foster care system present with serious and complicated needs
- Quality foster parents and experienced professionals are essential
