
1. What is the Foster Youth and Alumni Leadership Summit?
The Leadership Summit is a skill-building opportunity for current and former foster youth and their allies. Foster youth who are interested in sustaining local foster youth and alumni chapters can elevate their voice and unique perspective to create change in their lives and the lives of others who have or who will experience foster care. All travel expenses and participation costs will be paid.
2. Who should complete an application?
Applicants who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply to attend the Summit:
- A foster youth age 14 or older
- A former foster youth age 24 or younger
3. What if I am a Volunteer, Ally or Alumni over the age of 24 and want to attend Summit?
Please fill out the online Volunteer/Ally application or contact Bailey Buckingham to have a hard copy version mailed to you. Former foster youth over the age of 24 are encouraged to request and submit an application.
4. What types of activities will be at the Leadership Summit?
Participants will learn how to use their voice effectively to get their needs met in and out of the system. Participants will meet with other current and former foster youth, identify issues important to them, and express their ideas to state policy makers.
Additionally, participants will attend Transitions. This innovative, experiential eight hour training is the latest Mockingbird Society developed curriculum for youth who have experienced foster care. Participants will learn tools to help successfully navigate life’s major transitions including, but not limited to, transitioning out of foster care.
5. When is the application deadline?
Applications must be submitted online via by Friday, April 20th, 2012. You can find the link to the online application at www.mockingbirdsociety.org.
We strongly encourage applicants to apply online, however you may send in a printed copy of your application postmarked no later than Friday, April 20th , 2012.

When will I hear the results?
The Mockingbird Society will notify all applicants, in writing, of the selection decisions by no later than Wednesday, May, 9, 2012. Selected participants will need to complete and return their registration forms to attend.
