The Mockingbird Network

The Mockingbird Network is a statewide initiative bringing together youth and alumni of foster and kinship care, with a vision to develop individual leaders, engage and strengthen communities, and reform the foster care system.
The Mockingbird Network helps to connect youth and alumni, ages 14 to 24, who have experienced foster care and/or kinship care with others around Washington State who share their life experiences. As a result, they are finding their voices, realizing their potential as strong and productive citizens, and leaving their mark on a child welfare system in need of change.
The Mockingbird Network involves youth in:
- One of six regional Chapters in Washington State designed to help them prepare for a successful future, with valuable work and life skills training, preparation and planning for adult life, and leadership development.
- Leading community projects and initiatives in their region. Local community partners (businesses, child welfare organizations, community groups, and other child advocates) are able to invest in their most vulnerable citizens by collaborating with and supporting Network Chapters.
- Reformation of the foster care system. As a key component of The Mockingbird Society’s ongoing mission, The Mockingbird Network is revolutionizing the role and impact of youth and alumni to bring about system reform in Washington State.
