Leadership Trainings

At The Mockingbird Society, we believe it is youth themselves who will effect the greatest change in the foster care system. The Mockingbird Network offers all participants a series of trainings, including:

• Life Advocacy 101
• Your Rights
• Voice Development
• Legislative Advocacy.

Chapter Leaders that attend the trainings return to their communities and train other Network Participants and their community on the same topics. Foster Youth Rights A resource for youth in case that goes over their legal rights in the areas of safety and well being, court proceedings, placement and visitation, and education. This workshop is 2.5 hours and cost is $100. It is facilitated by one MBS staff and one youth. The cost per Rights Manual is $1.50. This is not included in the price above.
Life Advocacy 101 A training that teaches youth how to advocate for themselves. These skills can be applied in the workplace, at school, with service providers as well as their personal lives. This workshop is 2.5 hours and cost is $100. It is facilitated by one MBS staff and one alumni of care. The cost per pocket advocacy guide is $4.00. This is not included in the price above.
The Culture of Foster Care This training provides participates with a glimpse of what it is like to be raised in the foster care system. This workshop is 1.5 hours and cost is $75. It is facilitated by one MBS staff and youth/alumni of care.
Voice Development The purpose of this training is to help participants understand the power behind their personal stories and how they can use their life experiences to facilitate change within the Foster Care System. This workshop is 4 hours and cost is $100. It is facilitated by one MBS staff and youth/alumni of care.
