The Mockingbird Society stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and with those working to end the racism and the continued injustices inflicted on communities of color. We stand with the families who have lost their loved ones at the hands of racism. Their lives mattered. We will honor George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Manuel Ellis, Charleena Lyles, and the countless others who have lost their lives to police brutality and white supremacy.

Mockingbird remains committed to leveraging our platform to disrupt the systemic and structural racism in the foster care and youth homelessness response systems. We know Black children are 2.2 times and Native American children are 2.9 times more likely to be placed into foster care than white children; Black youth are 6 times more likely and Native American youth twice as likely to become homeless than white youth.

We will work even harder towards justice and equity in these systems, ensuring that our policies are informed by those disproportionately impacted by them. And that outcomes for young people and families who experience these systems are not predictable based on race.
