Through The Lens

Although COVID 19 will prevent us from gathering our annual benefit luncheon this year, we can still join together (virtually) to support the power of lived experience to transform systems and lives.

This fall, The Mockingbird Society is excited to invite you to a three-part speaker series: Through the Lens of Lived Experience. Taking place on Oct. 1st, 15th, and Nov. 12th at 7:20pm on YouTube Live, the series features 15-20min conversations with transformative leaders. Their insights and stories will highlight why lived experience is so critical in the work to transform foster care and end youth homelessness. We hope you’ll join us!

CLICK HERE to register for the entire speaker series, and you’ll get the connection details for each conversation 24 hours in advance.

PART I: THROUGH THE LENS OF LIVED EXPERIENCE
JIM THEOFELIS AND DEONATE CRUZ

Why does lived experience matter for The Mockingbird Society’s work, and how does it help to create a better world? What does it mean to “elevate youth voice”? Our founding Executive Director, Jim Theofelis, and Mockingbird alumni, Deonate Cruz, will unpack these questions as we explore how lived experience has fueled twenty years of impact - and why it has the power to do so much more.

PART II: SEEING FOSTER CARE DIFFERENTLY
FERNANDO CLARA & MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ PARTNERS

When we listen to lived experience, we create a better way to care for children and young people. One that celebrates their unique culture and identity, and provides them with the stability and support they need to succeed. And we can do it on a global scale. Join our Director of Practice Innovation, Fernando Clara, in a conversation with MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ partners as they discuss why this model is the most culturally relevant way to deliver foster care and support families.
