Mandy Urwilerletter from the exec

Laura Pierce, the new Interim Executive Director of The Mockingbird Society, began her work with nonprofits in 1989. She has done work with fundraising, community organizing, and high-level management positions. In 1998, she began consulting with quite a few nonprofit organizations to help with strategic planning, board development, and helping organizations create more capacity. She has also served as an Interim Executive Director at eight other nonprofits in the greater Seattle area. Now, we are excited to have her here at Mockingbird to help us move into our next chapter!

Laura has a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington concentrating on nonprofit management. She teaches nonprofit management topics at Seattle University, UW Nonprofit Management Certificate Program, Nonprofit Assistance Center, and United Way of King County, all on top of her consulting work. In fact, she owns her own consulting business called Laura Pierce Consulting!

“Youth with direct experience
know what policy changes will
make the most difference,
and TMS has a process to
surface those concerns and
advocate for positive change.”

Laura says she loves TMS’s “commitment to changing the system so that future generations of children and youth in foster care, and those experiencing homelessness, will have an easier road. Youth with direct experience know what policy changes will make the most difference, and TMS has a process to surface those concerns and advocate for positive change.” Her role will mostly be maintaining relationships with our partners and supporters and helping prepare Mockingbird for the new, permanent executive director come early 2016. Fun fact about Laura: She has an “awesome 14-year-old daughter who is adopted from foster care.” TMS staff and participants are excited to welcome Laura to the team!
